Device compability
Using both the Windows Media Digital Rights Management (WMA/WMV) and OMA DRM we will reach a larger user base. Mainly home computers and mobile MP3 players such as the Creative player use the WM DRM. OMA on the other hand is used by phone manufactures such as Nokia, Samsung etc.
OMA DRM exists in version 1.0 and 2.0, where the latest version allows more sophisticated DRM options. OMA DRM 1.0 has been implemented in over 400 phone models. Many mobile operators (e.g. Vodafone, SFR, Turkcell, Vivo) use OMA DRM for their content services. The first OMA DRM 2.0 implenmentations in mobile phones were released early 2006 (e.g. the Nokia N91 and Sony Ericsson W850i). Software implementations for PC and PDA clients are also available. Most of the ringtones pre-installed on Nokia phones have implemented DRM. |
