FROM CONCEPT TO CAR has selected about 170 companies from over 800 candidacies. They were chosen on the basis of stringent technical, qualitative and logistic parameters, including:
- product/process/environmental certification
- R&D investments and/or participation in national or European research projects
- co-design and manufacturing capabilities
- over 30% of turnover in the automotive sector
- patent applications in the last 5 years
- in-company laboratories
- staff able to speak foreign languages
- motivation and intention to diversify and internationalize,?often working with other companies in the region.

FROM CONCEPT TO CAR provides a whole range of information about selected companies and updates on all current activities.

FROM CONCEPT TO CAR is the link between the companies of excellence in Piemonte and the international buyers. For this reason a non-profit Contact Office has been created with the aim to communicate constantly with the international customers, to understand their supply needs and to fix for them the contact with the right suppliers according to their demands. In particular, the Contact Office is the most efficient reference for:
- the organization of one-to-one meetings between buyers and suppliers
- the organization of specific meetings for homogeneous groups?of companies at the buyers premises
- the coordination of Piemonte manufacturers for the supplying of assemblies
- the organization of workshops in Piemonte with the purchasing managers of car makers, system suppliers and other important?customers, in which it coordinates the match-making activities,?plans the agenda of the meetings and supplies organizational and logistic support.

Piemonte: competitive edge with a solid background

Excellence in human resources with 650,000 workers in the industry. About 7,000 students graduate each year from the three universities in Piemonte: 1,500 from the Engineering College alone.
Its natural inclination for scientific and technological research can be seen in the 14,000 private-sector researchers and the 3,500 ones in universities and public institutions.
Transport infrastructure: 1,000 km of highways and three alpine tunnels ensure rapid road links, 2,000 km of railroad track, 3 intermodal terminals. A project is currently underway to construct a high-capacity rail link between Lyon, Torino, Milano and Venezia, 2 airports for all destinations, with an adjoining cargo city.

An industry of auto Inventors and Masters
The inventors are the car designers who develop the concept together with the customer, and create the style and often the entire project of the vehicle. These companies do not only create the design, but are integral structures for engineering and development, realizing the whole process up to prototyping and testing of the vehicles.
Beside the designers there is a vast group of engineering companies, specialized in different fields.

The enablers are the specialists in production engineering, and develop, construct and install the assembly lines and equipment which are required for the realization of an automotive project.

240 companies - half Inventors, half Enablers - of which 60% have a turnover of less than 15 million Euro. More than half of their turnover is generated by exports.

Leading factories
32 medium-sized and large, fully internationalized companies. Producing assemblies, modules and systems. Annual production of ?3. 5 billion Euro.
70% of total market turnover is generated by companies with over 1,000 employees.

Masters of Product
379 companies: specialists in components, spare parts and accessories. Billing a total of 5.5 billion Euro. The most significant proportion of turnover is created by medium-sized companies with between 100 and 500 employees, but smaller enterprises (about half of the total) also play an important role.

Masters of Manufacturing
Over 500 auto-component manufacturing, processing and assembling companies. Highly competitive, extremely flexible SMEs invoice € 4.8 billion per year.

Piemonte: beating heart of the Italian and European technology, with a complete network of companies, characterized by professionalism and competence, able to build a complete vehicle starting from the idea. The Piemonte automotive district boasts a centennial experience in every phase of the automobile design and construction - from styling to prototypes, from manufacture of the production lines to robotics, from the making of components to the supplying of complete modules, from mass to niche productions - that since years constitutes a supply source of the Italian and many international car makers.
